Mega Event on Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan Held in Sanguem
Goa celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda through major tribal welfare outreach
Panaji : A grand event under the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan was held at the Municipal Council Hall in Sanguem to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Speaker Shri Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister for Social Welfare Shri Subhash Phaldessai and other dignitaries inaugurated the programme, which is part of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan—a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Directorate of Tribal Welfare.
CM Dr. Sawant emphasized that 25 tribal villages in Goa have been identified under the scheme, and benefits of 18 departmental schemes will reach them. He highlighted the setting up of a Tribal Research Centre in Sanguem and the upcoming Tribal Museum at Farmagudi. A ₹10 crore Kunbi village project is underway, and 3,500 forest rights sanads have already been issued.
Union Minister Oram stated that a ₹79,000 crore national budget has been allocated over three years involving 18 ministries to uplift 63,000 tribal villages across India, including infrastructure, housing, health, education, and agriculture development.
The event saw distribution of benefits under 15 government schemes, and the launch of free student transport buses under the District Mineral Fund. Health camps and 13 departmental stalls served hundreds of beneficiaries.
Also present were MP Shri Sadanand Tanavade, MLA Shri Ganesh Gaonkar, and other key officials. Shri Govind Bhagat compered the event, and Director Shri Dipak Dessai proposed the vote of thanks.
