Chikhal Kalo 2025 Begins with Vibrant Celebration of Goan Culture and Devotion

Marcel : The Department of Tourism inaugurated Chikhal Kalo 2025 at Shri Devki Krishna Temple, Marcela, launching a three-day festival rooted in Goa’s cultural, spiritual, and culinary heritage. The event was graced by dignitaries including MLA Govind Gaude, Tourism Director Kedar Naik, GTDC MD Kuldeep Arolkar, and others.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte emphasized that Chikhal Kalo reflects Goan identity and the spirit of regenerative tourism, celebrating hinterland traditions and community bonding. Director Naik highlighted the festival as part of the “Goa Beyond Beaches” and #GlowOnArrival campaigns, promoting eco-conscious and culturally immersive tourism.

The first day featured a traditional cooking competition, devotional “Nachu Kirtanache Rangi”, and Bhakti performances by artists like Mugdha Gaonkar, Hrishikesh Sane, and Dr. Bharat Balvalli with his ensemble, captivating the audience.

The festivities continue on 6th July with Bhajan recitals for Ashadhi Ekadashi, and culminate on 7th July with the iconic Chikhal Kalo mud ritual, celebrating Lord Krishna’s playful spirit.

Entry is free for all. Visitors are invited to join this vibrant tribute to Goa’s living traditions.
