India on Brink of Victory as England Stumble in 608-Run Chase

India tightened their grip on the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston, leaving England reeling at 72/3 in their mammoth chase of 608 at stumps on Day Four.

After India declared their second innings at 427/6, led by a sublime 161 from captain Shubman Gill his second century of the match Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj rattled England’s top order with early strikes. Akash removed Duckett (25) and Root (6), while Siraj dismissed Crawley for a duck. England’s hopes now rest on Harry Brook (24*) and Ollie Pope (15*), needing 536 more runs on Day Five with seven wickets in hand.

Gill’s masterclass, which included 13 fours and 8 sixes, took his match tally to 430 the second-highest in Test history. Contributions from KL Rahul (55), Rishabh Pant (65), and Ravindra Jadeja (69*) helped India set a daunting target.

India’s pacers, continuing their first-innings dominance, exploited the new ball brilliantly. With rain forecast uncertain, India will hope to wrap up a memorable series-levelling win on the final day.

Brief scores: India 587 & 427/6 decl. vs England 407 & 72/3.
