Neeraj Chopra Wins Inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic with 86.18m Throw
Bengaluru : Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra clinched the title at the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a World Athletics Gold-level event, with a best throw of 86.18m at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.
Cheered by a crowd of 14,593, Chopra overcame a foul in his first attempt and took the lead with his second throw of 82.99m. His third attempt registered the biggest throw of the night at 86.18m. He followed it with an 84.07m and ended with 82.22m.
Kenya’s Julius Yego finished second with a season-best 84.51m, while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage secured third with 84.34m.
“Thank you, Bengaluru, for coming tonight. There was a headwind, so the marks weren’t that big. But I’m happy my family is here too,” Chopra said.
The Indian star began his season with a win in South Africa, followed by strong showings in Doha, Poland, Paris, and Ostrava where he threw 90.23m, setting a new Indian record.
