Bondla Zoo Reopens at Full Capacity; New Facilities Planned

Panaji : Goa’s only zoo, the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, has now been fully reopened to the public, informed State Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane. After implementing various animal rehabilitation, care, and conservation measures, the sanctuary has once again become a major attraction for visitors.

Minister Rane stated that Bondla is not just a tourist destination but also a center for biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness. In the coming days, the zoo will see the inclusion of new species such as deer, reptiles, and wild birds. Additionally, the animal treatment center will be modernized, and environmental education workshops will be organized. An eco-tourism project is also planned in the Bondla region.

Currently, the zoo houses leopards, sambar deer, nilgai, spotted deer, monkeys, bears, and various species of birds. A key highlight is the enclosures built to replicate the animals’ natural habitats, along with educational displays and learning zones for children. The government aims to enhance the visitor experience, Rane added.
