DRDO & IAF Successfully Test Indigenous Astra BVRAAM with RF Seeker

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted the flight-test of the indigenous Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) ‘Astra’ on July 11, 2025. The test was conducted from the Su-30 Mk-I platform off the Odisha coast, featuring the indigenously developed Radio Frequency (RF) seeker.

Two missiles were launched against high-speed unmanned aerial targets under varied conditions. Both targets were destroyed with pin-point accuracy, validating the weapon system’s performance.

All subsystems, including the indigenous RF seeker, functioned flawlessly. Data from Range Tracking instruments at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed the system’s precision and reliability.

With a range exceeding 100 km, Astra is equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems. Over 50 public and private sector industries, including HAL, contributed to the project.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO, IAF, and industry partners. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat congratulated all teams on the successful test.
