Gangotri is a Sacred Name, Reflects Spiritual Heritage: Phal Dessai
Inland Waterways Minister Subhash Phal Dessai defended the name “Gangotri,” stating that it holds deep spiritual significance as it marks the first emergence of the holy waters from the Himalayas.
“Gangotri is not just a name, it’s sacred,” Phal Dessai said, emphasizing its religious and cultural value.
Responding to criticism from GPCC President Amit Patkar, Phal Dessai remarked, “If he has objections, he is welcome to suggest alternative names.”
The minister reiterated that the name was chosen with reverence and symbolism, and urged political leaders to respect the cultural essence behind such decisions.
