CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Inaugurates and Commissions Two Ro-Ro Ferry Boats – “Dwarka” and “Gangotri” on Chodan–Ribandar Route
Panaji : In a significant boost to Goa’s inland water transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated and commissioned two state-of-the-art Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) ferry boats, namely “Dwarka” and “Gangotri”, for the Chodan–Ribandar route.
The event was held in the esteemed presence of Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik, Inland Waterways Minister Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Mayem MLA Shri Premendra Vishnu Shet, Secretary (Inland Waterways) Ms. Cheshta Yadav, IAS, and other dignitaries and officials.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Sawant highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening water transport connectivity as part of its broader vision of sustainable and multimodal transport development in Goa. He noted that the newly introduced Ro-Ro ferries will significantly reduce travel time, improve vehicular and passenger movement, and promote eco-friendly transport options.
The addition of “Dwarka” and “Gangotri” is expected to enhance tourism, reduce congestion on land routes, and ensure smoother connectivity between the island of Chodan (Chorao) and Ribandar.
The commissioning of these ferries marks yet another milestone in the state’s ongoing push towards a “Viksit Goa 2037”, offering modern infrastructure while preserving ecological balance.
