Panaji Honoured as India’s Cleanest City in Its Category at Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25
Panaji : In a moment of great pride for the state, Panaji has been awarded the prestigious title of the Cleanest City in India in the category of 50,000 to 2 lakh population at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25. The award was presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, in a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
This national recognition comes as a testament to the relentless efforts and transformative initiatives undertaken by the city under the Swachh Bharat Mission. From efficient door-to-door waste collection to achieving Garbage-Free City certification and ensuring scientific waste treatment, Panaji has emerged as a model city in urban sanitation and cleanliness.
Health Minister and local MLA, Vishwajit P. Rane, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating,
“This recognition is not just an award — it is a validation of the vision, commitment, and tireless work of our sanitation teams, city officials, and, most importantly, the people of Goa. It reflects our collective dedication to building a cleaner and greener Goa.”
The award marks a significant milestone for Goa, placing Panaji on the national map as a leader in sustainable urban development. It also underscores the importance of continued citizen participation, public-private collaboration, and innovation in the journey towards a Swachh and sustainable Goa.
