Yuri Alemao Vows to Hold Govt Accountable During Assembly Session

Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has vowed to hold the BJP-led government accountable for its administrative failures and neglect of public concerns as the tenth session of the Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly begins on Monday.

“Law and order has collapsed while the government is busy hosting events and collecting commissions. Mega housing projects are being promoted by converting land, without studying the state’s carrying capacity,” Alemao said, adding that opposition MLAs will raise these issues despite the curtailed session.

Alemao, along with Congress MLAs Carlos Ferreira and Altone D’Costa and AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, recently met to strategize their approach.

He criticized the government for converting starred LAQs to unstarred, allegedly to avoid debates. “We’ll utilize Question Hour, Zero Hour, and Calling Attentions to highlight key issues,” he added.

Alemao also slammed the proposed hike in power tariffs, calling it ill-timed amid soaring inflation, and confirmed plans to raise it on the first day.
