Centre Launches SASCI Scheme to Develop Iconic Tourist Spots

The Ministry of Tourism has issued operational guidelines for the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ (SASCI) scheme. This initiative aims to transform select Indian tourist destinations into world-class attractions. The scheme will provide financial assistance for end-to-end development, covering infrastructure, branding, sustainability, and overall tourist experience.

Project proposals from states were assessed based on connectivity, ecological impact, infrastructure, capacity, and marketing potential. Approved projects must be completed within two years, with central funding available until March 31, 2026. State governments will handle project implementation and management.

The Ministry will also promote these destinations through its domestic and international campaigns, including digital and social media outreach. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat revealed the details in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
