Goa Awards ₹5 Lakh Under Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award; CM Highlights Key Achievements in Assembly

On Day 3 of the Tenth Session of the Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced several key milestones that underline Goa’s progressive strides in science, education, waste management, and sustainable development.

In a historic move, Goa became the first state in the country to award ₹5 lakh under the Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award, recognizing and encouraging young scientific talent. The award was conferred during the Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav, a prestigious event that brings together leading scientific minds to ignite curiosity and innovation among the youth.

Highlighting the state’s national leadership in environmental efforts, the Chief Minister stated,
“I am happy that Goa Waste Management Corporation is now a knowledge partner to the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. This is a clear recognition of Goa’s best practices in waste management.”

Focusing on the transformative role of education, Dr. Sawant reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the implementation of NEP 2020, the first comprehensive education policy in four decades. He emphasized its alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, aiming to empower future generations with skills and values for a developed India.

Goa’s progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also received attention. The state has improved its national SDG ranking, moving up from 7th to 3rd place, and is now targeting the top spot with focused governance and innovation.

In his concluding remarks, CM Sawant described the 2025-26 state budget as a “Swayampurna budget”, likening it to a “Chavathichi Matoli” – a symbol of inclusiveness, completeness, and thoughtful care for every section of society.
