Opposition Creates Uproar Over Historic Bill for Scheduled Tribes in Goa
New Delhi : The INDI Alliance today created chaos in the Lok Sabha, obstructing the introduction of a historic and long-awaited bill concerning the rights of the tribal communities in Goa.
The “Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024” was scheduled to be introduced in the House today. This bill is a crucial step toward ensuring proper democratic representation for the Scheduled Tribes of Goa.
However, opposition parties disrupted the proceedings with loud protests, causing interruptions in the functioning of Parliament. Their attempt to block the introduction of this bill was not just a disruption of parliamentary decorum—it was a direct insult to the tribal communities of Goa.
“By bringing this bill, the Modi Government has once again reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the tribal communities of Goa and upholding constitutional justice,” said a senior BJP leader.
The bill proposes necessary changes to ensure that Goa’s Scheduled Tribes receive appropriate representation in the State Assembly in proportion to their population. The tribal community has been raising this demand for many years.
While the government’s move has been welcomed by many, today’s uproar by the opposition has been labeled “anti-tribal,” with accusations that they are ignoring the legitimate demands of marginalized communities for mere political gain.
Now, the tribal communities of Goa and their representatives await the swift passage of this bill with hope and determination.
