Enact a Stringent Anti-Conversion Law in Goa Hindu Rashtra Coordination Committee appeals to the Goa Government

Panaji : The Uttar Pradesh Police recently launched ‘Mission Asmita’, a campaign against organised crime. Under this operation, a woman named Ayesha alias S.B. Krishna, who was part of an inter-state religious conversion racket allegedly influenced by the methods of the Islamic State, was arrested from Goa. In light of this, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stated on the first day of the ongoing monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly that there is an urgent need for a stringent anti-conversion law in the state. It is well known that in the past, several international criminals with links to terrorist organizations have stayed in Goa. Furthermore, there have been numerous cases of ‘Love Jihad’ reported in the state. Therefore, all Hindu nationalist organisations in Goa fully support Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s statement. The Hindu Rashtra Coordination Committee strongly demands that the Goa Government immediately enact a stringent anti-conversion law and implement the tenant verification drive effectively across the state. This demand was made through a press conference held by the Samiti in Panaji. Press conference was addressed by Mr. Govind Chodankar from the Hindu Rashtra Coordination Committee and Mr.Jayesh Thali, Secretary of the Gomantak Mandir Mahasangh. Also Mr. Sujan Naik from Goa Hindu Yuva Shakti, Mr. Mandar Gawde from Shivpratishthan Hindustan, Mr. Vinod Warkhandkar from Swarajya Sanghatana, Mapusa, and office-bearers of Goa Hindu Shakti Mr. Vinay Mandrekar and Mr.Amit Sawant were present.

Mr. Govind Chodankar further said that, in the past, David Coleman Headley, a top operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Syed Mohammad alias Yasin Bhatkal of Indian Mujahideen had stayed in Goa. This raises serious suspicion about the existence of networks in Goa that provide shelter to terrorists.

Mr. Jayesh Thali said that, while BJP governments across India are taking action against illegal constructions through ‘bulldozer’ operations, why is the demolition of unauthorized structures on Moti Dongor in Goa still pending despite clear orders from the High Court? Illegal scrapyards and encroachments at the entrance of every Goan city must also be removed and investigated. If local panchayats are found to be protecting such encroachments, strict action should be taken against them as well. The Committee is confident that the Goa Government, which has already initiated action against illegal conversions by the ‘Believers’ group, will soon introduce a strong anti-conversion law in the state without any delay.
