Yoga May Cut Type 2 Diabetes Risk by 40%, Says New Study
Regular yoga practice can reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by up to 40% among high-risk individuals, reveals a new report titled ‘Yoga and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes’. Presented to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Science & Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, the report was prepared by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) under Dr. S.V. Madhu.
Unlike previous studies focusing on diabetes management, this study highlights yoga’s preventive potential. It found that consistent yoga reduced diabetes risk significantly in people with family history or other risk factors.
Dr. Singh hailed it as a landmark step in preventive healthcare. Specific asanas were identified but await clinical recommendations. Further validation studies are underway.
