NRLM Empowering Rural Youth through Skill Development & Employment Opportunities
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), the Ministry of Rural Development is actively enhancing skill development and employment opportunities through Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs).
DDU-GKY focuses on placement-linked skill training for rural youth aged 15–35, prioritizing SC/ST (50%), women (33%), and PwDs (5%). RSETIs, managed by sponsoring banks, offer self-employment and skill training for unemployed youth aged 18–50.
Till June 2025, over 17.5 lakh youth were trained and 11.48 lakh placed under DDU-GKY, while 56.69 lakh were trained and over 40.99 lakh settled under RSETIs.
An MoU was signed in June 2025 between the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to strengthen efforts.
Currently, 466 Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) are engaged nationwide, including 28 in Jharkhand.
Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, shared this in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
