Feast St Anthony celebrated across Goa
Panaji:The feast of St Anthony of Padua was celebrated with pomp and religious fervour on Thursday .
Thousands of devotees from all walks of life thronged the Chapels dedicated to saint Anthony to participate in the festivities St Anthony of Padua’s feast is marked with great zeal and devotion, captivating the spirits of the faithful. It holds a significant place in the Goan community, where devotion to the saint has been deeply rooted for generations. Churches and chapels dedicated to St Anthony across the state become focal points of vibrant celebrations on the feast day, drawing devotees from far and wide.
St. Anthony of Padua is one of the Catholic Church’s most popular saints. He is known as the patron saint of lost and stolen articles and was a powerful Franciscan preacher and teacher. St Anthony’s feast is celebrated all over the world on June 13 to commemorate his death in 1231.
Anthony was born and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon Portugal, and died in Padua taly. Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly Canonized saints in church history, being canonized less than a year after his death.
He was proclaimed a Doctor of the church by Pope Pius on 16 January 1946.
