Happy Birthday to the active MLA of Calangute “Michael Lobo”

Michael Vincent Lobo was born on 18 June 1976 and is currently the member of the Goa legislative assembly from Calangute. Besides being an MLA Lobo from calangute Michael lobo also served as the former Leader of Opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly and Former Minister for Science and Technology, Waste Management, RDA and Ports

Michael Vincent Lobo was born to Melchiades Vincent Lobo and Almira Lobo in the village of Parra He obtainedHigher Secondary School Certificate in 1993. And after that ventured into business before becoming the MLA of Calangute constituency

Lobo contested on the BJP ticket from Calangute assembly constituency in the 2012 Goa legislative assembly defeating the Indian National Congress candidate and incumbent MLA for Calangute Agnelo Fernandes by a margin of 1,875 votes

He became a member of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa when it was constituted on 7 March 2012. Lobo also served as the chairman of the North Goa Planning and Development Authority since 24 May 2012. As the MLA of Calangute Lobo pitched for the idea of a garbage corporation to the government and volunteered to head it for the love of Swachh Goa. He also launched Swachh Bharat mission in Parra by inaugurating new garbage vans, which were deployed to collect garbage from Parra, Verla-Canca, Arpora and Nagoa

In 2012, lobo had set up a state-of-the-art garbage treatment plant in his constituency which segregates and treats waste and even generates electricity, and things in his constituency had improved in the garbage front after setting up of the plant He had also written to the chief minister to ban plastics in the State as one of the measures to eliminate garbage menace created by use of plastics. Michael Lobo had also pitched the idea of a garbage corporation to the government and volunteered to head it for the love of Swachh Goa.

Lobo had also launched the “Tera Mera Beach campaign along with Drishti marine as a promotion to keep the beach clean.

Michael did not limit his contribution only to tourism in the Calangute constituency. He was the first MLA to set up a public utility and toilet block along with a Tourism Information Centre in the villages Parra and Candolim . He also renovated the government primary school at Nayak Vaddo and created infrastructure for horticulture in Parra.

Since the tourism industry depends on, and cannot function without, adequate power supply, Michael commissioned a ten MVA transformer at Candolim. He is now in the process of connecting Calangute to the Parra transformer to meet the increasing demand. He fought to put up electrical poles in the paddy fields so that power shut downs and interruption were reduced.

Michael has done more for tourism than any other minister past or present. Michael has proved that even as an ordinary MLA you can get work done if you have the capacity to win friends and influence people.
