Thieves broke into a flat in Ektanagar housing borad at Mapusa.
Ram Narayan Singh’s flat in Ektanagar’s housing estate was broken into by unknown thieves when the owners of the house which included an elderly couple, had gone to Darjeeling, it is not yet clear how much valuable items were stolen from the house.
The incident of theft came to light around 9 am. The theft was committed by unknown thieves between Thursday midnight and Friday morning. The owner of the house, Ram Narayan Singh, along with his wife had closed the flat and gone to visit their relatives in Darjeeling. Neighbors in the building noticed that the main door of the locked flat was open. The hook of the iron gate on the door was broken as well as the hook of the door handle. When these people entered the house, the furniture was in disarray. Cupboards were smashed and contents were thrown on the beds. It was revealed that the house had been stolen.
Later, the Mapusa police and the son of the flat owner, who lives in the housing board, were called. The thieves made away with the cash and valuables kept in the cupboards. Divya Singh, daughter-in-law of Ram Narayan Singh, informed that the stolen cash included approximately 15 thousand. The thieves did not touch the small amount. The police went to the spot and conducted a panchnama. Police are conducting further investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
