De-silting of nullahs need to be taken up on priority so as to prevent flooding in the future: Calangute MLA
Calangute: With heavy incessant rains lashing the state for the past two days causing heavy flooding in Calangute village calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that de-silting of nullahs should be taken up on priority so as to prevent incidents of flooding in the future
Lobo was speaking to reporters at the side lines of Plant sapling distribution function at calangute MLA Michael Lobo, besides lobo also present were panch member Annie coelho, BJP calangute youth mandal president yeshwant Kandolkar and others, the calangute BJP block in collaboration with the BJP Calangute Mandal, distributed fruit-bearing saplings the saplings were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“These nullahs are the main arteries which drain off rain water into the fields and rivers so there is a need to take up the de-silting works of the nullahs. With the accumulation of silt, the level of the nullahs and the ground has becomes one and so causes flooding ,lobo said.
He further said that along with the de-silting work all the damaged retaining walls of the nullahs will also be repaired.
