DTE OF TRANSPORT DIRECTS TO INSTALL VLT DEVICE FOR PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES.
Directorate of Transport has issued order to general public, particularly the operators of public service vehicles and vehicle location tracking [VLT] device manufacturers regarding mandating all public service vehicles to be equipped with or fitted with vehicle location tracking device and one or more emergency buttons.
It is informed that an operator of a public service vehicle can purchase the vehicle location tracking device and emergency button from any vendor provided that the device and button are complying with AIS-140 standards.
The VLT device manufacturer/OEM dealer/ Authorised dealer shall install the VLT devices in public service vehicle and update the device details against vehicle number on VAHAN portal.
It is further stated that in order to facilitate the fitment and repair of the device and button, adequate time shall be provided till November 30, 2024. After this cut of date, the provision of a functional vehicle location tracking device and emergency button shall be mandatory for all public service vehicles and the same shall be checked at the time of fitness tests of such vehicles.
