Vijai Sardesai Slams Govt for Dodging Key Issues, Calls Assembly Session a ‘Mockery of Democracy’
Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and MLA Vijai Sardesai has accused the Pramod Sawant-led government of deliberately evading discussions on crucial issues such as the Cash-for-Job Scam and Land Grab Scam by reducing the upcoming Assembly session to a mere constitutional formality.
Sardesai criticized the truncated session, stating that it serves only to meet the legal requirement of holding a session within six months of the last one. “This is nothing but a mockery of the Constitution and a cruel joke on the people of Goa who demand answers. By suppressing debate, the government is murdering democracy,” he alleged.

He further argued that the only way to prevent the government from controlling the legislature is to establish a fixed annual calendar for Assembly sessions, as practiced in Australia, Canada, and the UK. “Otherwise, as long as the Governor continues to convene sessions based solely on the advice of the Cabinet, this murder of democracy will continue,” he added.
According to Sardesai, Goa’s entire Cabinet is involved in illegal activities for private gain and, therefore, does not want open discussions in the Assembly. “They have no answers to pressing public concerns and fear exposure, just like what happened the last time,” he remarked.
Sardesai has urged opposition parties and civil society to resist the government’s attempts to stifle debate and push for transparency in governance.
