PM Modi Meets Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum at G7 Summit, Explores Deeper Strategic Ties
Kananaskis : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President of Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, marking their first-ever bilateral interaction. PM Modi warmly congratulated President Sheinbaum on her historic electoral victory, making her the first woman to be elected President of Mexico.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the longstanding and cordial relations between India and Mexico, expressing mutual resolve to elevate the strategic partnership. PM Modi thanked Mexico for its steadfast support in India’s global fight against terrorism and highlighted the shared values and historical bonds connecting the two democracies.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in priority sectors including trade, investment, startups, science and technology, innovation, and the automotive industry. Emphasis was also placed on promoting tourism and cultural exchanges to strengthen people-to-people ties.
PM Modi highlighted India’s capabilities as a global supplier of affordable, high-quality pharmaceuticals, expressing interest in expanding Indian presence in Mexico’s healthcare and pharmaceutical markets. Discussions also touched upon collaboration in agriculture and traditional wellness systems.
President Sheinbaum expressed admiration for India’s technological strides, especially in digital public infrastructure, and voiced interest in bilateral partnerships in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technologies, and critical minerals.
Both leaders shared perspectives on regional and global issues, particularly emphasizing the concerns of the Global South. They welcomed upcoming engagements between Indian and Mexican think-tanks to deepen intellectual and policy exchanges.
Recalling his 2016 visit to Mexico, PM Modi extended an invitation to President Sheinbaum to visit India, reaffirming a mutual commitment to enhancing the India-Mexico partnership.
