Minister Sudin Dhavalikar Inaugurates Training Program on Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Systems

Panaji : Minister for Power, Shri Sudin Dhavalikar, inaugurated a specialized training program on “Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Systems” under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijlee Yojana. The program, conducted by the National Power Training Institute (NPTI), aims to equip engineers from the Electricity Department with essential skills for designing, installing, and maintaining rooftop solar systems.

The training initiative is part of the government’s broader push to promote renewable energy adoption and reduce dependence on conventional power sources. The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijlee Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, seeks to expand India’s rooftop solar capacity, empowering residential households to generate their own electricity.

Speaking at the event, Shri Sudin Dhavalikar emphasized the importance of transitioning to clean energy and urged engineers to take full advantage of the training to enhance Goa’s solar energy infrastructure.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Stephen Fernandes, Director of NPTI, Dr. Tripura Thakur, and other dignitaries. The program is expected to strengthen the technical expertise of engineers, enabling them to effectively implement the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijlee Yojana across the state.

Under this scheme, the government aims to add 30 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the residential sector. Homeowners are eligible for a 60% subsidy on 2 kW solar systems and a 40% subsidy on additional capacity between 2 to 3 kW. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills and contribute to a more sustainable energy future for Goa and the nation.
