Calangute, Goa – In a rare and heartening sight, an Olive Ridley turtle was spotted nesting on Calangute Beach, laying a total of 126 eggs. The remarkable event was witnessed by officials on routine patrol, who promptly informed the Forest Department to ensure the safety of the eggs and the turtle.

The vigilant team, comprising Police Constable Deepraj Sawant and Forest Guard Utkarsh Sangelkar, played a crucial role in reporting the incident and facilitating a swift response from the Forest Department. Officials immediately took the necessary steps to safeguard the nesting site and protect the eggs from any potential threats.

The Olive Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) is a vulnerable species protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. These turtles migrate thousands of kilometers to nest on India’s shores, making conservation efforts critical to their survival.
