Calangute Village Panchayat Presents Rs 32.99-Cr Budget for 2024-25
The Calangute village panchayat in Goa has unveiled its budget estimates for 2024-25, totaling Rs 32.99 crore. The budget was presented at a gram sabha meeting on Sunday, where officials outlined the panchayat’s revenue sources and expenses for the upcoming year.
Revenue Sources:
– Trade tax: Rs 7.9 crore collected in the last year
– Garbage tax: Rs 2.6 crore collected in the last year (note: no garbage tax is collected from locals)
– Pay parking areas: Tito’s lane (Rs 43.5 lakh) and Nazri resort parking (Rs 22.8 lakh)
During the meeting, villagers raised concerns about the taxes collected from households and small guesthouses owned by locals, requesting a reduction. Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira assured that no garbage tax is collected from locals.
The meeting also discussed the proposed bus-stand and market complex, with villagers pointing out that the old VP resolution to acquire land for the complex needs to be finalized before considering new proposals. Additionally, there is no provision in the new budget for acquiring the land.
