‘Operation Abhyaas’ Civil Defence Mock Drill Conducted Across Goa

Panaji | Goa actively participated in ‘Operation Abhyaas’, a nationwide Civil Defence preparedness initiative, conducted simultaneously at 244 locations across the country. The exercise, held under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, aimed at enhancing readiness in the wake of recent terror incidents in Kashmir.

In Goa, the mock drills were carried out in both districts—North and South Goa. In North Goa, the drills took place at key locations including the Indian National Watersports Centre, Miramar; Panaji Ferry Wharf; and M/s Goa Glass Fibre Ltd., Colvale, Bardez.

A critical simulation at the Panaji Ferry Wharf involved a scenario depicting the collapse of the Mandovi Bridge. The operation tested the efficiency of search and rescue operations, evacuation procedures, and mass casualty management. Civil Defence volunteers played a key role alongside multiple government departments and emergency services.

The drill provided an opportunity to evaluate the preparedness, response capabilities, and coordination among various line departments and responding agencies.

The operations in North Goa were overseen by the District Collector, North Goa, Smt. Yashashwini B, IAS, in coordination with the Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Directorate of Health Services, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, District Disaster Management Authority (North Goa), Civil Defence Volunteers, and other allied agencies.

The exercise reinforced Goa’s commitment to proactive disaster management and inter-agency cooperation in times of crisis.
