VP Inaugurates Green Infra Projects at Mormugao Port
Mormugao : In a landmark event for Goa and India’s maritime future, Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji, inaugurated several major infrastructure projects at Mormugao Port today. The ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai ji, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur, and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
These projects mark a significant leap in the modernization and greening of India’s port infrastructure, aligning with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Key Projects Dedicated to the Nation:
3 MW Solar Power Plant
Designed to meet 100% of the port’s power requirements, this green energy initiative is set to reduce carbon emissions by over 3,800 tonnes annually, making Mormugao a beacon of sustainable port operations.
Two Harbour Mobile Cranes at Berths 10 & 11
Commissioned under a ₹100 crore Public-Private Partnership with Delta Ports, the new cranes will significantly enhance cargo handling efficiency and turnaround times.
Covered Coal Handling Dome
Built at a cost of ₹160 crore, this state-of-the-art facility offers advanced dust suppression systems and a storage capacity of 2 lakh metric tonnes, reinforcing environmental safeguards.
Launch of ‘HaritShrey’ Green Shipping Incentive Scheme
Mormugao becomes the first port in India to launch dedicated green shipping incentives, promoting cleaner maritime practices and encouraging sustainable logistics.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant hailed the developments as a testament to Goa’s accelerating growth under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. He highlighted ongoing upgrades including the four-laning of NH-366, railway double tracking, the development of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks, and full-scale port digitization.
“These transformative projects will not only strengthen Goa’s economic backbone but also support the broader vision of Swayampurna and Viksit Goa,” he added.
The inauguration ceremony reflects a proud milestone for Goa and Indian ports, signaling a bold step forward in green growth, operational efficiency, and infrastructure modernization.
