PM Modi Addresses G7 Summit, Emphasises Energy Security, AI Governance, and Global South Concerns
Kananaskis : Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Outreach Session on Energy Security at the 51st G7 Summit on Tuesday, where he called for a sustainable, inclusive, and technology-driven approach to global energy access.
Addressing world leaders, PM Modi underscored the urgency of ensuring energy security through green pathways, highlighting India’s global initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and Global Biofuels Alliance.
“Artificial Intelligence is energy-intensive. The only sustainable solution for the energy demands of a tech-driven world lies in renewable energy,” he said, reiterating that affordable, reliable, and clean energy remains India’s top priority.
PM Modi stressed the need to ensure technology reaches every individual, especially in the Global South, stating, “No country in the Global South should be left behind.”
Drawing attention to India’s achievements in digital governance, he noted the success of Digital Public Infrastructure, which has empowered both the economy and citizens, making technology accessible at the grassroots level.
On Artificial Intelligence, he emphasized the need for global governance frameworks, warning against the misuse of AI especially the dangers of deepfake technology. “There must be clear watermarks or disclosures on AI-generated content,” he urged.
He also highlighted the strategic link between critical minerals and emerging technologies, calling for resilient and secure supply chains.
Reflecting on past and present global trends, PM Modi said, “While the last century was about competition for energy, this century demands cooperation in technology.” He reaffirmed India’s focus on the four pillars: Availability, Accessibility, Affordability, and Acceptability.
India, he said, is on track to achieve Net Zero by 2070 and has already fulfilled its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule, with renewables contributing 50% of total installed power capacity.
The Prime Minister also addressed geopolitical challenges, highlighting how crises related to food, fuel, fertilisers, and finance disproportionately affect the Global South. He affirmed India’s role in voicing their concerns on global platforms.
Condemning terrorism, PM Modi referred to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, calling it “an assault on the soul, identity, and dignity of every Indian.” He strongly called for accountability for countries that support terrorism, stating, “There must be no ambiguity. Terrorism must be treated with the same urgency as any other global threat.”
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister thanked G7 leaders for condemning the terror attack and reiterated India’s commitment to a human-centric, inclusive technological future, urging enhanced global cooperation for peace, sustainability, and equitable development.
