SAD Leader Bikram Majithia Arrested, Accused of Laundering ₹540 Crore Drug Money: SIT

Chandigarh : In a major crackdown, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with a high-profile drug trafficking and money laundering case. The arrest comes following a series of coordinated raids at over 25 locations linked to Majithia across the state.

According to a statement by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), preliminary investigations have revealed that Majithia allegedly laundered more than ₹540 crore of drug money. The SIT claims that huge sums of unaccounted cash amounting to ₹161 crore were funneled into the bank accounts of companies reportedly controlled by Majithia.

Sources within the Vigilance Bureau stated that this operation is part of an intensified campaign against the drug mafia and their political links. The agencies are probing the financial trails and suspect international connections may also be involved.

The arrest of the former Punjab minister marks a significant development in the state’s long-standing fight against drug trafficking, which has remained a pressing political and social issue.

Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
