LoP Yuri Alemao Slams Govt for Failing to Regularise Contract Workers; Highlights Plight of Over 120 Librarians
Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has come down heavily on the BJP-led Goa government, accusing it of betraying the aspirations of Goa’s youth by failing to regularise the services of contract-based employees, particularly over 120 school librarians who continue to work in uncertainty.
“Despite tall promises of job creation, the government has shamefully failed to provide job security to those already serving in essential roles. These librarians are paid a pittance and are deprived of basic benefits like Travel Allowance (TA), Dearness Allowance (DA), or Provident Fund (PF). Their careers remain precarious, and their future is in the dark,” said Alemao in a strong statement.
Calling the situation exploitative, Alemao said it was high time the government stopped taking advantage of the youth. He added that he has written to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant regarding the issue and will also raise it during the upcoming Assembly session.
“Enough is enough. Our young people deserve better, and I will continue to fight for their rights,” Alemao asserted.
Supporting his stand, Goa Congress leaders Altone D’Costa, Amit Patkar, and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira also expressed solidarity with the affected workers and criticised the government’s inaction.
The issue is expected to generate heated debate in the Assembly, with the Opposition gearing up to demand concrete assurances from the government.
