Char Dham Yatra Resumes After 24-Hour Suspension Amid Slight Weather Relief
The Char Dham Yatra resumed on Monday after being suspended for 24 hours due to heavy rainfall and landslide threats in Uttarakhand. Officials confirmed that the ban, imposed as a precaution on Sunday following a cloudburst near Silai on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi, has now been lifted.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey stated that District Magistrates along the Yatra route will monitor and regulate vehicular movement based on local weather conditions. The cloudburst had occurred near an under-construction hotel where 29 workers had taken shelter; 20 were rescued safely. Debris had blocked the Yamunotri National Highway, which has since been cleared.
Despite the resumption, several roads remain closed due to ongoing landslides. Traffic remains disrupted near Nandprayag, Bhaneropani, and on the Sonprayag–Munkatiya road in Rudraprayag, a crucial route to Kedarnath.
Heavy rain continues in Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Rudraprayag. Authorities have issued fresh advisories for residents near riverbanks, urging caution as rivers approach danger levels. The yatra remains vulnerable to weather disruptions.
