Panaji: All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said that nearly 14 lakh women occupy official positions in rural and urban bodies across the country and this was made possible after Former Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi gave women this opportunity by implementing political reservation.

She was speaking at the North Goa Mahila Sabha at Mapusa organised by the INDIA bloc on Tuesday.

Lamba said that since she assumed charge of the position on January 10, 2024, she has visited 25 states in the past 110 days.

“I have addressed 50 Nari Nyay Sammelans in this period across the length and breadth of the nation. This election is of the country, and your valuable vote will go to the country. This vote will go to save Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. Nearly 14 lakh women are occupying official positions in rural and urban bodies across the country, and this was made possible after our Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi gave women an opportunity with political reservation,” she told the gathering of women.

She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cheated the women by not implementing the 33% political reservation for women.

“In the name of Beti Bachao, BJP is protecting rape accused while women continue to face atrocities,” she said.

Goa Congress Mahila President Beena Naik said that the Congress Party guarantees various monetary assistance for women if voted to power.

“Our party promises to help educated women by constructing hostels in both the districts as they face problems in travelling from far-off places. We will also double the assistance for midday workers, asha and aaganwadi workers,” she said.

Congress Party’s Goa pradesh election committee member Pramod Salgaonkar said that this is an election where all the opposition parties are on one side and the BJP on the other side.

“All of you must be heroes and fight and reach out to the electorate and urge them to vote for the Congress Party,” she said.

“Women should demand justice. This is our election, and I urge women to vote for change,” she said.
