Young tennis aces Devaansh, Kaivalya march ahead in Baale BPS Open 2024

Margao, April 2024 –Nine-year-olds Devaansh Naik and Kailvalya Devaraya marched to the next round of the ongoing Baale BPS Open 2024 in Margao in the under-14 boys event.

Devaansh, a student of The Podar International school, Panelim, defeated Ivan Henriques 6-1 to qualify for the quarter finals of the state ranking tournament, while Kaivalya, a student at The Learning Centre Ucassaim, defeated his opponent, Samik Satardekar, 6-4.

While Devaansh started playing tennis at the age of five, Kaivalya has been actively playing tennis since he was six years old.

In other matches in the boys under-14 event, Vedant Naik beat Vidaal de Menezes 6-2 to enter the quarter finals. Isaac Carvalho defeated Sairaj Narvenkar 6-3, Ivan Henriques defeated Aymer Fernandes 6-0, Vidaal de Menezes beat Vihaan Krishnan 7-5, Tarshish defeated Arion Rodrigues 6-2, Adianta Devaraya beat Aarav J 6-1, Arsh Sardesai slugged it out against Aragya Goyal to win 7-5 while Arhan Gaunkar beat Adianta Devaraya 6-2 and Alec Baretto beat Arsh Sardesai 6-4.

In the men’s singles event matches, Sachin Ambre, Anurag Agrawal, Nishad Shevde and Pankaj Naik defeated their rivals Ojasvi Mann, Sidney, Sreenath Sreenivasan and Dunstan Dias, respectively, with identical scores of 6-2, while Joshua Pereira and Chandrakant beat Dmitry Smirnov and Pratham Fadte 6-4, respectively, in two separate encounters. In other matches in the same event, Raoul Vas beat Allan Fernandes 6-1, Avadhut Palekar defeated Sanjay Varak 6-1, Akhil Shirwaikar defeated Filbert Pereira 6-0, Punit Fadte beat Siddharth choudhary 6-1 and Raju Kundaikar defeated Akhil L 6-1, even as Akhil Shirwaikar beat Sachin Ambre 6-3, Anurag Agrawal ousted Chandrakant 6-2 and Siddharth Nunes blanked out Pankaj Naik’s challenge 6-0.

Supported by Baale Resort Goa and organised by the B.P.S. Sports Club, Margao, in association with the Goa State Tennis Association, the inaugural edition of the Baale BPS Open 2024 got underway at Margao last week.

Intense competition is expected during the nine days of Baale BPS Open 2024 from April 27 to May 5, as the competing players vie to improve their state ranking.
