Works of De-silting of nullahs begin in Calangute as part of rain prep work.

Calangute: The work of de-silting major nullahs in Calangute begun on Monday as part of the pre-monsoon works.

The works were inaugurated by calangute MLA Michael lobo in the presence of deputy sarpanch Geeta Parab Panch member Prasad Shirodkar and others .the water resources department (WRD) would be responsible for carrying out the work.

“The nullahs are situated adjacent to the main road and were in need to be de-silted so as to prevent waterlogging in the monsoon” said calangute MLA Michael lobo

We are hopeful that the WRD will complete this work well before the arrival of the monsoon,” he further said.

Deputy sarpanch Geeta parab said that the de-silting of drains and gutters would be taken up in other wards, including the market area to also prevent flooding with emphasis given to low-lying areas that witnessed water-logging during last year’s monsoon.

Meanwhile reacting to the recent case where in a girl from Ansabhat, Mapusa had commented on the rituals and culture of Devi Lairai through social media, thereby hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo reiterated that people who post against religion and hurting the sentiments, using social media only want to become famous.
