Bike rental and taxi operators in Calangute strongly oppose Konkan Railway’s (KR) plans to start a bike rental service at five stations in the state
Calangute: Bike rental and taxi operators in Calangute are strongly opposing Konkan Railway’s (KR) plans to start a bike rental service at five stations in the state. They have demanded cancellation of the tender and plan to meet Prime Minister Pramod Sawant in this regard on Monday.
At a protest rally at the football field in Calangute on Saturday evening, tourist taxi operators, bicycle rental companies and taxi rental companies urged the state government to support locals in the matter.
Fearing huge losses and unemployment if the KR offered a bike rental service, they decided to meet CM Pramod Sawant on Monday and file a petition in the matter.
Sudip Tamhankar, John Lobo, Chetan Kamat, Sunil Naik, Arun Shetye, Hilda Coutinho and others felt that this plan of KR was a ploy to make the locals jobless.
They have warned that tourist taxi operators, as well as bicycle rental and taxi rental companies, would take legal action and even stage street protests to force the KR to scrap bicycle rental service at five stations in the state.
