Cumbarjua MLA constructs road in Divar using personal funds.
Panaji: Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai announced on Sunday that he is utilizing his own funds to build various roads in his constituency. He made this statement during the inauguration of the access road to the Ganapati Visarjan site at Uski Waddo Malar-Divar.
Sao Mathias Malar-Divar Sarpanch Supriya Tari and Panch Shabdesh Mandrekar attended the event. Vitthal Malji donated the land for the road construction, which fulfilled a longstanding demand of locals to facilitate the immersion of Ganesh idols.
“When I learned of this issue, I wondered how people managed to immerse their idols. Upon a villager’s request to construct this road before Ganesh Chaturthi, I immediately decided to expedite the work. However, a proper road will be completed by Chaturthi next year,” Faldessai said. He also mentioned plans to install a grill at the site.
“We never hold back on development works. When the government is unable to act quickly, we step in with our own resources. Government procedures can be slow, so we often use personal funds to address urgent needs,” he explained. Additionally, Faldessai announced that nearly Rs 4 crores would be paid to farmers who provided their land for the road, compensating them at nearly Rs 5,000 per sqm.
“We appreciate the farmers’ cooperation. At Muddear, we will soon start constructing a retaining wall and a road. In Cumbarjua, I spent nearly Rs 1 crore of my own funds to build a crucial road, reducing travel time. Only a retaining wall remains, for which I have submitted a proposal to the government, and the chief minister has approved it,” he added.
Faldessai also mentioned his ongoing efforts with the government regarding the Ro-Ro ferry service. “Rs 3 crores has already been allocated for two ferries, one for Chorao and one for Cumbarjua. I will raise this issue in the monsoon session. I am also pursuing the Divar bridge project with the central minister, aiming to start the work within this term. Soon, we will begin beautifying the area surrounding the Divar church, and I am working on a proposal for a hall,” he concluded.
