Woes of ward no 7 in Mapusa.

MAPUSA: The councillor of ward number 7, Dr. Tarak M Arolkar, has written a letter to the chief officer of Mapusa Municipal Council on Friday urging him to stop issuing construction licenses and occupancy certificates to new projects in his ward.

Dr. Arolkar stated that the construction licenses and occupancy certificates should not be issued without taking into consideration the problems faced by the existing residents of the ward number 7 adding that the residents face lots of major problems like power interruptions, lack of water supply, potholed roads, irregular garbage collection, nauseating stench from the rotten garbage, open gutters, no street lights, overflowing gutters etc etc.

While drawing attention of the chief officer, Dr. Arolkar revealed that at present the residents of ward number 7are facing shortage of water supply as old pipelines need urgent replacement, frequent power interruption at any moment, and due potholed roads accidents occur and the road users get injured while dodging the potholes, due to irregular door to door garbage collection, garbage remain collected and rotten and foul stench spreads in the ward which is injurious to health, gutters overflow due to heavy downpour these days and vehicles are parked on the roads which makes difficult to the residents in the night to park vehicles due to no street lights besides temporary structures have encroached upon roads at various spots in the ward.

As such, he appealed to the MMC chief officer to halt the issuance of construction licenses and occupancy certificates to the new constructions unless and until all these facilities are extended to the existing residents only then think of issuing fresh licenses and occupancy certificates.to new projects.
