PANAJI: The shuttle market in the city popularly known as Panaji Municipal Market was leaking from top and many vegetable and fruit vendors have erected tarpaulin in the form of plastic sheets while few others were conducting business under the protective shed of rain umbrellas to protect them from getting drenched in the rain water.
Many shopkeepers complaint of market is allegedly leaking from roof top but no body went to Corporation of City of Panaji to lodge a formal complaint from the market association to the authorities but a corporator came to their aid and timely inspected the plight of the business community in the market who heard them patiently and assured them to do the needful after getting the stock of the situation in the market.
They also complaint that due to torrential rain there is water everywhere as a result many visitors and customers refuse to visit their shops due to filth and water loggings and ultimately business community is at a loss. Despite that the vendors repose hope in the leadership of the young and dynamic City Mayor, Mr Rohit Monserratte and the local MLA, Mr Atanasio Monseratte would do the needful on time and save them from incurring losses further.
They stated that the water is number one enemy of the perishable goods during monsoon and once they (vegetables and fruits) specially leafy vegetable like palak, methi, green coriander and mint leaves come in contact with the water rotting begins and as a they need to save their good from rotting specially during heavy rainfall as there are no customers visit the place frequently like summer season.
