CM Pramod Sawant Reviews Renewable Energy Initiatives; Key Decisions Taken to Strengthen Green Energy Push in Goa
Panaji : Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level meeting today to review key renewable energy initiatives in the state. The meeting was attended by Secretaries and senior officials from the departments of Finance, Home, Goa Pollution Control Board (GPCB), and General Administration Department (GAD).
Several significant decisions were taken to accelerate Goa’s transition to clean and sustainable energy:
GEDA to Become a Company: The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) will transition from a society to a company structure to enable more efficient and professional operations.
Recruitment Drive Approved: The government has approved the recruitment of a Managing Director and essential staff to strengthen GEDA’s institutional capacity.
Focus on Renewable Energy Expansion: A targeted strategy will be implemented to promote solar power, biogas, and water heating projects across Goa.
PM Suryaghar Yojana: Emphasis was laid on ensuring safety measures and a reliable Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for consumers under this flagship rooftop solar initiative.
EV Charging Infrastructure: A 50:50 cost-sharing model was approved for electric vehicle charging stations—half the cost will be borne by the government, and the other half by developers.
Solar Street Lights: Plans are in place to expand solar-powered street lighting in both rural and urban areas to enhance clean energy use and improve public safety.
Enhanced Green Energy Subsidies: The government will increase subsidies for biogas units, solar water heaters, and solar installations in government buildings to encourage broader adoption of renewable technologies.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Goa a model state in the field of renewable and sustainable energy.
