India-Brazil to Boost Defence Ties During PM Modi’s Upcoming Visit
As India advances towards defence indigenisation, Brazil has expressed strong interest in acquiring Indian defence technologies. Discussions on this are expected during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil starting July 6, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. MEA Secretary East P. Kumaran confirmed talks on joint research, tech sharing, and potential defence exports like Akash Air Defence Systems, Garuda Artillery Guns, Coastal Surveillance Systems, and OPVs. Brazil also seeks cooperation in maintaining its Scorpene submarines and has shown interest in joint ventures and R&D. PM Modi will visit five nations starting July 2, reaching Brazil for the BRICS Summit and bilateral meetings in Brasilia. The visit aims to deepen strategic ties in defence, trade, energy, space, and technology. India’s defence exports touched ₹24,000 crore in FY 2024–25, with a goal of ₹50,000 crore by 2029. Modi’s visit follows increasing India-Brazil cooperation and growing global demand for Indian defence innovations.
