Gill’s Heroic 269 Puts India in Command at Edgbaston
India seized firm control of the second Test at Edgbaston, thanks to a phenomenal 269 by captain Shubman Gill his career-best and the highest score by an Indian in England. From a precarious 211/5, India posted a commanding 587, with Gill anchoring key partnerships of 203 with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and 144 with Washington Sundar (42). His innings, laced with 30 fours and 3 sixes, showcased patience, flair, and leadership.
England’s bowlers struggled on a flat pitch, with Shoaib Bashir picking 3/167. In reply, England faltered to 77/3 at stumps. Akash Deep, replacing Bumrah, struck twice in one over to dismiss Duckett and Pope, while Siraj removed Crawley. Gill also shone in the field with a stunning catch.
With Root (18*) and Brook (30*) at the crease, England still trail by 510 runs and face an uphill battle. The day, however, belonged to Gill who not only rewrote records but led India with class and authority.
Brief Scores:
India 587 (Gill 269, Jadeja 89; Bashir 3/167)
England 77/3 (Brook 30*; Akash Deep 2/36)
