Djokovic Battles Past De Minaur to Reach Wimbledon Quarter-Finals for 16th Time
Novak Djokovic overcame a slow start to defeat Australia’s Alex de Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and reach his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final on Monday. The 38-year-old Serb struggled early, losing the first set in just 31 minutes and committing multiple unforced errors, as De Minaur dictated play with clever movement and precision.
With Roger Federer watching from the Royal Box, Djokovic gradually regained control through attritional baseline rallies. Down 1-4 in the fourth set and facing a point for 1-5, Djokovic turned the tide, winning five straight games to seal victory after three hours and 19 minutes.
Reflecting on the tough battle, Djokovic said, “I was very pleased to hang tough in the right moments.” Now boasting 43 wins in his last 45 Wimbledon matches, he moves on to face Italy’s 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals. Djokovic is aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam title and to equal Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles.
