Gujarat Govt Approves ₹212 Crore for New Bridge After Gambhira Tragedy
Days after the tragic collapse of the Gambhira bridge in Gujarat that claimed 20 lives, the state government has approved the construction of a parallel two-lane high-level bridge. On Sunday, authorities sanctioned ₹212 crore for the new project, which aims to ensure safer and more resilient infrastructure in the region.
The Gambhira bridge, a 40-year-old structure, collapsed on July 9, sending multiple vehicles plunging into the Mahisagar river. Rescue operations have recovered 20 bodies so far, while the search for one missing person is still ongoing.
Officials said the new bridge will be built with modern engineering standards to prevent such tragedies in the future. The government has also promised strict scrutiny of older bridges across the state.
