Panaji, the capital city of Goa, there was water! water!! and water !!!

PANAJI: Panaji city witnessed heavy water loggings as usual while a huge tree came down crashing on a parked Maruti Van in Porvorim.

Torrential rains accompanied by lightning and thunders lashed the state since sunset and continued till 10.30 pm like yesterday and then there was drizzle till filing of this report. On Tuesday, it started raining at around 6.25 pm just before the sunset and continued little before the midnight while yesterday (Monday) it started at around 6.15 pm approximately and continued till 9.30 pm but it subsided thereafter.

In Panaji, the capital city of Goa, there was water! water!! and water !!! Every where there was water loggings, generally at every usual points, namely near Ambedkar Garden, near Hotel Sona, at Rua de Ourem Creek, near Gujarat Sweet Mart, lane sandwiching the Municipal Market and the INOX besides other areas in Santa Inez, Campal-Panaji and Miramar Circle.

PANAJI The sudden heavy showers caught the office-goers, shopkeepers, and market visitors unawares, students and as such many ladies, gents, and youngsters were seen rushing to take shelter under the shed when it started raining heavily accompanied by thunder and lightning near Panaji Municipal market. Many people stranded in city for hours together for want of umbrella and rain coats.

One could witnessed the streams of water flowing from one road to other low lying roads within minutes of raining and taking along the mud, tree leaves, newspaper pieces besides plastic bottles and plastic bags rushing and gushing in the nearby drainages and where ever there is no provision of drainages remaining stranded and clogged.

While in Porvorim a huge tree came crushing down opposite a hotel and landed on a parked Maruti van crushing it on the spot, yesterday. Unfortunately there were no pedestrians on that patch of the road in the night yesterday.

However, the Fire brigade arrived the spot in the morning hours and cleared the road for vehicular traffic movement.

Even the power supply played a hide and seek game with the residents of the Porvorim and plunged the whole area into pitch darkness a couple of times forcing the consumers to thrive on battery or emergency lights. People in the areas were complaining about the street lights and the stray cattle squatting in the middle of the roads near Old Marker and the International Cricket Stadium in the night forming hurdle for the 4-wheeler drivers and 2-wheeler riders.

Even stray dogs were witnessed running after every 2-wheeler that passes from Maruti Sai Service area, near Porvorim police station, Journalists Housing Colony, near Goa Housing Board office, and Education Department Office who were thriving on the general public for feeding as their feeders failed to arrive on time due to heavy rains. People mainly two- wheeler riders were seen taking shelter under the Atal Setu Cable stayed bridge on Tuesaday late evening and were seen lined up from Maruti Sai Service Circle till Secretariat entrance road. There was heavy water loggings on the Mandovi bridge near Malim Circle and the cars were moving at an snails speed.

Ferry boat plying to Madkai got drifted away from the ramp with the passengers. The 6.30 pm passengers were stranded till late evening. There was no response from the River Navigation Department till late evening.
