MEETING OF DISTRICT CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL HELD                                                                             

District Consumer Protection Council, South in its meeting held recently at Margao discussed various issues pertaining to consumers and various measures to resolve the same.

The meeting was headed by the Additional Collector II Shri. Uday Prabhu Dessai at Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao.During the meeting issues pertaining to Roads and Highways, Road Safety, Sale of non ISI helmets, issues related to Food and Drugs Administration, Electricity Department, BSNL, Directorate of Social Welfare, Higher Education, Fire and Emergency Services and Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd were incorporated in the agenda of the meeting.

It was observed that non-ISI helmets are available on roads side and shops causing dangers to the public. The issue was brought to the notice of Bureau of Indian Standards and sought prompt action in the matter.

Non maintenance of areas in around Electricity transformer thereby causing untoward incidences were came up for the discussion. It was also suggested to switching off street lights which remain on during day time to prevent wastage of power.

Co-ordinator of GOACAN forum Shri. Roland Martins stressed upon various issues related to sale of electric bikes and its maintenance services. He pointed out that consumers are facing problems due to poor maintenance services which are available in the state. He stressed upon the idea of strengthening Fire and Emergency rule to ensure building safety due to fire accidents. It was suggested to improve the infrastructure of public transports. It was discussed that good and efficient public transport can play significant role in reducing the vehicular traffic on the roads which can prevent road accidents too.

Deputy Director, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Shri Amit Sawant, senior officers of various Government Departments were present on the Occasion.
