Mapusa’s Peddem Junction Gets a New Lease of Life with Traffic Signal Installation
Mapusa: After years of traffic congestion and frequent accidents, the Peddem Junction in Mapusa is finally seeing a long-awaited upgrade with the installation of a traffic signal system. The newly installed signal is currently undergoing an eight-day trial run under the supervision of Traffic PI Malon D’Souza, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), and the contractor responsible for the project.
Speaking about the initiative, MLA Carlos Ferreira stated, “This traffic signal is a game-changer for our community. It will bring much-needed discipline to traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety for all.”
The Peddem Junction has been a hotspot for traffic snarls and accidents, with commuters frequently facing difficulties during peak hours. The installation of the traffic signal is expected to improve the overall traffic management system. During the trial period, officials will assess and fine-tune the signal timings as needed, with durations ranging from 20 seconds to one minute for different directions.
Authorities have urged motorists and pedestrians to cooperate and follow traffic regulations during this testing phase. Once fully implemented, the new system is anticipated to streamline movement at the junction, significantly enhancing road safety and reducing travel delays for daily commuters.
